When Sara first contacted me she mentioned that she loved a series of images I had shot that were photographed on a stormy day and I had processed and layered them to appear heavily textured (these images look great printed on canvas). Then when I met up with Sara and her husband Gaston for a planning session we ended up chatting for over an hour because they were just simply awesome people. During that time we did manage to talk about the session and how we would try and make Sara’s dream of a stormy photo session possible and we chatted about the sort of images they hoped to end up with from our time together.
Only a few days later I checked online storm chasing groups and they were all abuzz with talk that a storm was heading in our direction. I jumped on the phone to Sara and off we all headed to meet up at the location.
It. Could. Not. Be. More. Perfect.
We shot through light rain and I put together a series of images that I knew had dramatic skies but I was pushing for just a little bit more. We hit the sand dunes and I set up Sara and my lighting gear and we shot some amazing frames – everything just came together so well. Then like magic, the grey grumbling clouds parted and the most magnificent golden light shone down.
We couldn’t have planned for such an amazing day and yet it happened. Here is just a very small selection of images from Sara and Gaston’s maternity shoot on the Gold Coast – I’m showing them out of order because I want to save my favourite ’til last.
